REVISED OATH FOR DOCTORS
This, more comprehensive Oath was drawn by Dr. Leo Rebello in 2003, since Hippocrates Oath is now partly outdated being centuries old. This revised Oath has been widely circulated, accepted and appreciated.

1st July is celebrated as Doctors Day all over the world. The day usually passes without a whimper. Many doctors have forgotten their Hippocratic oath or humanism. Therefore, I would like to administer the following oath to the doctors to serve as a reminder as to how important is their profession. Doctors to please repeat after me.

I, -------------, do hereby swear on this solemn day that :-
I shall NOT prescribe unnecessary medicines and tests to my patients;
I shall NOT give false counseling;
I shall NOT overcharge and accept cuts and gifts;
I shall NOT rape tiny tots with innoculations or vaccinations, for they pollute the blood stream of small children leading to serious diseases like AIDS, Cancers later in life;
I shall NOT prescribe lethal drugs, like anti-retrovirals, chemotherapy, or give ECT to my patients;
I shall NOT be afraid of any authority and fabricate medical records or give false evidence;
I shall NOT exploit students studying under me;
I shall NOT manipulate findings or results to win grants.

I, -------------, further solemnly affirm that:-
If I cannot treat a disease, I shall not say that AIDS, cancers, diabetes has no cure.
But will tell the patient to try other systems of medicine.
I shall treat health practitioners of other systems with respect and not tell deliberate lies
to prove my importance.
I shall study holistic healing modalities to increase my knowledge and wisdom.
I shall not even by mistake say that "HIV=AIDS=death" or cancers cannot be treated.
I shall not frighten my patients with unnecessary comments, opinions or advice.
I still remember what Hippocrates said, namely, "Let diet be your medicine" and shall accordingly prescribe fresh fruits, vegetables and good diet to my patients, rather than tonics, syrups, synthetic multi-vitamins, specially to children.
I shall NOT perform surgery, unless it is absolutely must and will not indulge in rackets like amniocentesis, caesarian section, silicon implant or liposuction.
I shall work to ban the useless and cruel animal experiments in the name of medicine.
I shall participate in periodic workshops, seminars, and conferences at my expense or on scholarship (no pharma funding) to educate myself and speak from my conscience if I am called upon to speak or preside.

Finally, I realize and aver that a great responsibility of people's well-being is upon my shoulders and I shall carry on my onerous task with utmost dedication.

This I swear in the name of God on this solemn Doctors Day and I shall repeat this oath daily lest I forget that I am in a divine profession to heal the world.

चक्रम प्रत्येक वेळेस डॉ ला त्या ठरावीक लॅबमधूनच कमीशन मिळत असेल असे क्षणभर गृहीत धरुया. पण मग त्या लॅबमध्ये मिळणारे अ‍ॅक्युरेट रीपोर्टस आणी दुसर्‍या लॅबमध्ये मिळणारे रीपोर्ट यात फर्क असणारच ना? मी हे अनूभवले आहे.

मला मायग्रेनचा वर्षभरापासुन प्रचन्ड त्रास होत होता. आयुर्वेदाने थाम्बले नाही, शेवटी आमच्या ओळखीच्या एका अ‍ॅलोपॅथी प्रॅक्टिस करणार्‍या डॉ कडे मी गेले. बरोबर नवरा होताच कारण हे डॉ आमच्या घरापासुन तासभर अन्तरावर लाम्ब आहेत. पण प्रचन्ड अनुभव, अचूक निदान, पेशन्टला समजून घेण्याची वृत्ती, कळकळ यामुळे पेशन्ट यान्च्या साठी २-२ तास थाम्बतात. कारण डॉ. प्रत्येक पेशन्टला किमान २० ते २५ मिनीटे देतात. परखड आहेत. आणी खात्री देते की असे डॉ फार दुर्मिळ आहेत.

तर या डॉ नी मला हिमोग्लोबीन, कॅल्शियम इत्यादी तपासण्या सान्गीतल्या. त्या त्यानी सान्गीतल्लेयाच लॅबमध्ये केल्या कारण ती लॅब अचूक आहे. सगळीकडे फी सारखीच आहे. माझ्या घराजवळ जी लेब आहे त्यात ते नको म्हणाले. गम्मत म्हणजे घराजवळच्या लॅबमधला आधीचा एच बी रिपोर्ट आणी नन्तरचा दुसरा डॉ नी सान्गीतलेल्या लॅबमधला रीपोर्ट यात फरक होता. यामुळे डॉ लगेच जी ट्रिटमेन्ट दिली त्याने वर्षभराचे माझे मायग्रेन २ महिन्यात बन्द झाले. प्रत्येक वेळेस डॉ लुबाडतातच असे नाही.

बापरे,
कापोचे , कुणी दिलीय ही ओथ?
लहान मुलांना व्हॅक्सिनेट करणार नाही, एडस सारख्या आजारावर रेट्रोव्हायरल्स , कॅन्सरवर किमोथेरपी, ( आवश्यक तिथे) ई सी टी (शॉक्स) देणार नाही.
पेशंटसना इतर 'पॅथींकडे' रेफर करेन?

Hippocratic Oath

I swear by Apollo Physician, by Asclepius, by Health, by Heal-all, and by all the Gods and Goddesses, making them witnesses, that I will carry out, according to my ability and judgment, this oath and this indenture.

To regard my teacher in this art as equal to my parents; to make him partner in my livelihood, and when he is in need of money to share mine with him, to consider his offspring equal to my brothers; to teach them this art; if they require to learn it, without fee or indenture; and to impart precept, oral instruction, and all the other learning, to my sons, to the sons of my teacher, and to pupils who have signed the indenture and sworn obedience to the physicians’ Law, but to none other. I will use treatment to help the sick according to my ability and judgment, but I will never use it to injure or wrong them. I will not give poison to anyone though asked to do so, nor will I suggest such a plan. Similarly I will not give a pessary to a woman to cause abortion. But in purity and in holiness, I will guard my life and my art. I will not use the knife on sufferers from stone, but I will give place to such as are craftsmen therein.

Into whatsoever houses I enter, I will do so to help the sick, keeping myself free from all intentional wrongdoing and harm, especially from fornication with woman or man, bond or free.

Whatsoever in the course of practice I see or hear (or even outside my practice in social intercourse) that ought never to be published abroad, I will not divulge, but will consider such things to be holy secrets.

Now if I keep this oath and break it not, may I enjoy honor, in my life and art, among all men for all time; but if I transgress and forswear myself, may the opposite befall me.

Modern Oath

At the time of registration, each applicant shall be given a copy of the following declaration by the Registrar concerned and the applicant shall read and agree to abide by the same:

• I solemnly pledge myself to consecrate my life to service of humanity.

• Even under threat, I will not use my medical knowledge contrary to the laws of Humanity.

• I will maintain the utmost respect for human life from the time of conception.

• I will not permit considerations of religion, nationality, race, party politics or social standing to intervene between my duty and my patient.

• I will practise my profession with conscience and dignity.

• The health of my patient will be my first consideration.

• I will respect the secrets which are confined in me.

• I will give to my teachers the respect and gratitude which is their due.

• I will maintain by all means in my power, the honour and noble traditions of medical profession.

• I will treat my colleagues with all respect and dignity.

• I shall abide by the code of medical ethics as enunciated in the Indian Medical Council (Professional Conduct, Etiquette and Ethics) Regulations 2002.

• I make these promises solemnly, freely and upon my honour.

जुनी शपथ डॉक्टरांवर बंधनकारक नाही असे वाचले होते. ती जुनी आणि संदर्भहीन आहे. तो एक उपचार आहे असंही म्हटलंय. हीच शपथ घेतात का याची कल्पना नाही. त्यामुळे मी विचारलेलं होतं की कुठली शपथ घेतात.

मागे जाऊन पाहू शकता.
