झेन कथा- ४ मूठभर चांदणं

व्वा !

ठमे ठ्मे ठ्मेतै...... मला नाहि कळली ही........ दो तिन तात्पर्य लागत आहे तुच सांग थोड्क्यात.

अगगागा, म्हणजे कपड्यान ऐवजी चांदणं दिलं असता तर परवडल असतं, असा विचार त्या गुरूने केला असावा

नाय समजली.?

परत, ठमे.. लावू तो अर्थ !

हि कथा झेन मास्टरच्या comapssion बद्दल आहे - the greatest compassion.

One night a thief entered into Ryokan's small hut. Ryokan had only one blanket which he used day and night to cover his body. That was his only possession. He was lying down but he was not asleep, so he opened his eyes and saw the thief entering. He felt great compassion for him because he knew there was nothing in the house. "If the poor fellow had informed me before, I could have begged something from the neighbors and kept it here for him to steal. But now what can I do?"

Seeing that there was nothing, that he had entered into a monk's hut, the thief started to go out.

Ryokan could not resist. He gave his blanket to the thief. The thief said, "What are you doing? You are standing naked. It is a very cold night!"

He said, "don't be worried about me. But don't go empty-handed. I have enjoyed this moment, you have made me feel like a rich man. Thieves usually enter the palaces of emperors. By your entering here my hut has also become a palace, I have also become an emperor. In my joy this is just a gift."

Even the thief felt sorry for him and he said, "No, I cannot receive this gift because you don't have anything. How you are going to pass the night? It is so cold, and it is getting colder!"

Ryokan said with tears in his eyes, "You remind me again and again of my poverty. If it was in my power I would have taken hold of the full moon and given it to you."

If Ryokan scolded the thief, or even dragged him off to the police, he would have done just what the thief would have expected. The thief would probably continue to think of himself as a thief with everyone against him. Ryokan sees the person behind the thief, and shows him that he cares for him as an equal human being. He offers him the hospitality that Ryokan believes is due to every person who steps into his hut.

Ryokan instructs the thief in the most important lesson there is, that he is a human being worthy of respect and honor, of love and friendship. Perhaps then, after being seen as such in the eyes of Ryokan, the thief will begin to view himself as much more than a thief and act accordingly.

Ryokan feels so deeply connected to the world and to others that he feels absolutely no lack. The gift that Ryokan really wishes to have given the robber is the awareness of our deep connection with the world and a sense of completeness which lacks nothing. This connection cannot be stolen or bought, but only realized within oneself

खर्या (किंवा खरेतर "चांगल्या") झेन कथा इतक्या (Osho interpretation इतक्या) शब्दबंबाळ नसतात व त्यात तात्पर्य देखील (समजण्यालायक) नसते. नाहीतर त्या बोधकथाच होतील (पंचतंत्र किंवा जातक्/जाचक कथांप्रमाणे). ठमादेवीने सोडली तिथेच गोष्ट सोडणे जास्त सुयोग्य, पण तिथेही झेन मास्टर जरा द्विधा मनस्थीतीत वाटतो

झेन चा गाभा खालील प्रकारे मांडल्या जातो:

Before you come in contact with zen,
you feel rivers are rivers and mountains are mountains.

Once you start learning about zen,
you feel rivers are not rivers and mountains are not mountains.

Once you have mastered zen,
You know that rivers are rivers and mountains are mountains.
