Asawari, u dont need to pay tax if you transfer it to ur NRI account. I have done that. Even I have filled in $ checks in my NRI account in India. So that way also you can trasfer and not pay tax.

keep this link handy USD to INR ithe tumhala sadhyacha $ rate kalel. This one can be handy for people in europe EURO to INR Generally icici gives 50 paise less than whatever is that days exchange rate. Remember this rate is the exchange rate of on which date money is deposited in India, not the date when you sent money. Web transfer is limited to US on this site. You can always use cheque or other channels from other countries.

I was just checking money transfer things. I saw a limit of max 15000$ that can be transferred online, in one week. HDFC or so talks about annual limit as well, of 25000$. is it the case about all sites? is there any site with no limit? or what are other ways for no limit transfer. may be depositing $ check directly in India?

Normally how much time does it take to transfer money 2 india through ICICI?
|
manasa, itakya links detos yachi link de baghu tiu, it takes 4 5 working days. I transferred on monday, and I saw the money in icici india branch account on next monday. they have a power transfer option. that way, they send the money by DD or something. but for that, u need to take a printout of ur order and give it to your local bank. this takes 48 to 72 hrs as per site. another option is if you have wells fargo bank account, u can trasfer money through them. it seems it will take 24 to 48 hrs. (I wonder, why an electronic transfer takes so much time? anyone has an idea? ) btw, I did not see any bank that gives guarantee of the rate of that day.

Here many are talking about special money transferring websites to transfer the funds. We had a economics geek here who studied how these sites worked. To cut long story short, they do offer you specialised service but they hit you hard in exchange rate. I used to use money2india.com as its free and I bank with their correspondent bank here. After conversation with him, I started using online wire transfer from another bank to Axis Bank. Now I get about 5 paise more. This looks as a small amount but not if you are transferring a decent sum. Do calculation yourself and see what fits your needs best.
