माझ्याकडे ATT/Cingular cell phone आहे. मला India तून आणि इथल्या लोकांना मी India त असताना call करायला कुठला plan घ्यावा हे कोणी सांगू शकेल का? please लवकर कळवा.

आर्च, AT&T-Cingular वाल्यांचे International roaming आहे तुला ती service activate करता येईल त्यांना कॉल कर. पण ती service खुप महाग पडते. त्यापेक्षा तुला तुझा फोन unlock करुन घेतलेला परवडेल त्यांच्याकडुन, मी कालच घेतलाय माझ्या देशवारीसाठी. फोन unlock करुन घेवुन गेलीस की देशात गेल्यावर कुठलेतरी SIM card घालुन घे आणि तो नवीन नंबर इथे घरच्याना कळव. फक्त मला हे मला माहीत नाही की या सिम कार्ड वरुन तुला अमेरीकेत कॉल करायला किती चार्ज पडेल, पण तुला incoming calls मात्र free असतील. तुला पुणे बी बी वरपण हेच ऊत्तर दिलय.

रुनी, Thanks ग. पण इथल्या लोकांना आपल्या cell वर त्यांच्या cell वरून फ़ोन करायला परत महागच पडेल न. ते rates check करते आहे.

Arch, you can unlock your quad band phone here and get a local SIM card when you go to India. Your family in US can use Reliance service to call you from cell which is not very painful and about 11/12 cents per min. But it is much cheaper that ATT/cingular international call rate.

ATT/Cingular चे बरेचसे phones unlocked असतात already , मी माझा Motorola v400 भारतात वापरला आहे, तिकडचं सिमकार्ड टाकून, अनलॉक वगैरे काही न करता.
Internationsl roaming activate करायची गरज नाही, तिकडे जाउन फोन ऑन केला की सरळ roaming वर चालू होतो, आणी एका मिनीटाला
$ १.२९ पडतात.
cell phone ऐवजी land line चालणार असेल तर Vonage हा अजून एक चांगला पर्याय आहे, पण त्यासाठी घरी brodband connection लागतं.

ATT/Cingular will unlock your phone or atleast provide you details for unlocking the phone if you call them. Please make sure you do that atleast 2 weeks before you go to India as it might take 3-4 days to work on your request in some cases.
I used my quad band phone in India last month without any problems (I use this phone here with ATT Cingular but its not locked by them as I bought it unlocked over the internet).
Calling options: US to India: Reliance is less than 8 cents per minute which is very cheap in my opinion.
India to US: You can try various phone booths. The India to US calls are very cheap these days. around Rs.15 per minute if I am not wrong. Or you can call from your cell phone too (no idea about charges)
The cell phone network is excellent in India. I did not experience any network issues even in remote corners of Maharashtra.

हे कोणाला माहित आहे का? ATT ने सांगितल की Since we have a national plan, calling from here to land line or cell phone in India will only cost minutes from the plan but no extra charge and same thing if I call from India since a cell phone here is not charged for incoming calls, they will not be charged. If I use my cell phone with ATT card, I will be paying for roaming charges $2.29/min हे सर्व तुम्हाला बरोबर वाटत का? just trying to make sure the rep gave me correct information
India तून international call चे सेल फ़ोनचे charges काय आहेत ते माहित आहे का कुणाला? इथून फ़ोन unlock करून घेतला आणि तिकडे card घेतल तर.

In India, my brother has got International calling (& roaming) on his cell phone from ATT (not sure what is new name of this company). He is using that service for about 3 years now and is very happy. But it is very expensive. There is some monthly change to have that service and then I think charge is about Rs. 20/min when you are in India and abt Rs. 50 when he is roaming internationally.

Yes Arch the information you have got is correct, just keep in mind that if you use your cell phone in India with cingular card, whether you call someone here in US or someone calls you from US, you will pay $2.29 per minute as roaming charge. If you talk to someone in US say for 10 mins, they wont pay anything, only 10 minutes will be deducted from the plan but you are going to pay $22.90 just to use your phone for talking, its damn expensive.

आता ATT कडे जाऊन आले. ते म्हणे आम्ही नाही फ़ोन unlock करत. हे TN च fad आहे की काय कोण जाणे. Is it possible to get it unlocked in India? May be renting a cell in India is another option.

The shops may not know a whole lot of about it.
Call their 1-800 number. Tell them that you need to use the phone in a foreign country and they will do it for you. Atleast that's what they did for me. They might try to sell you the international roaming plan but just tell them that its too expensive. Just make sure with them that unlocking the phone doesn't void support on your phone.
I had heard about cell phone rental service in India but don't know much about their pricing.

I recently bought phone from walmart connection center (online), and wat a surprise. Received an unlocked phone (sony ericsson), service provider ATT, ofcourse with a contract of 2 yrs and phone for $1. Also yesterday on ABC morning news it was mentioned that starting 2008 ATT will allow customers to brk the contract without any early termination fees.....

भारतात ४००~५०० रुपयात फोन unlock करून मिळतो.
आणी ATT च्या 1-800 नंबर ला कॉल केला तर ते फोन unlock करून देतात.
भारतात तात्पुरता वापरण्यासाठी unlocked फोन इकडे घ्यायचा असेल, तर इथे बरेच स्वस्त unlocked फोन आहेत.
सगळ्यात स्वस्त हा फोन आहे, $३१.९८ ला.

arch as far as I know no service provider can deny unlocking the phone legally. They can however use time consuming tactics from unlocking the phone. ATT is notorious for such tacts and can take about 2-3 weeks and multiple attempts. I have seen people struggling to get it unlocked despite having corporate plans.
I'll advice you to call 1-800 no asap and start the process. Also, once instrument is unlocked, please make sure to confirm that using SIM card from different provider.
Last but not the least, before going through all the hassle, please make sure that your phone has necessary frequency bands to be functional in India.

कोणी india मध्ये blackberry 8700c unlock केला आहे का? इथे २५ quote मिळतोय वेगवेगळ्या sites वर. काहि sites सांगतायत की code ने blackberry unlock होऊच शकत नाही. त्यान्च्याकडे पाठवावा लागेल totally confused कोणीतरी लिहीलेय की देशात ५०० रु मध्ये अनलाॅक करता येतो म्हणुन. पण blackberry येईल का?
हो. आणखी एक. हा blackberry inactive माझ्याकडे पडून आहे. त्याच्या previous owner वगैरेची इन्फ़ो माझ्याकडे नाही. त्यामुळे att ला call करु शकत नाही
