I would appreciate it very much if someone could give me info re a holiday in Goa. Last time I have been to Goa was in 1990 to Calangute beach . What is there now ? Is it still a good place to go for a holiday with a family?

Hi Marathi! I visited Goa in my last trip to India in last july. I will say it is still a very much fun place to take your family.I took my sweet little time to reach Goa(7 days) and stayed 3 days in Goa at Royal Palms resort place near Colva beach. Its a nice place to stay,my sister owns aprtment in that resort but you can rent it on weekly basis with reasonable rates. You can check
www.amchogoa.com where they have specials from time to time.Although we drove to Goa in Goa we did siteseeing using GTDC service which is very reasonable and good way to cover all the hilights of Goa in 2 days. They have 1 day south goa and 1 day north goa tours which costs 150 rs. per person in AC buses. Also take Mandovi river cruise, its lot of fun.My favorite beach is Vagator beach! must see! that beach and in the background Chapora fort!Ultimate!I went in monsoon there so it looked even preetier!Donna paula,Anjuna,Calangute,Miramar,Kolva are some of other good beaches. If you want to know about the heavenly beautiful Kokan route we took to go and come back from Goa please let me know. I will be happy if all the people can see the beauty of Kokan I saw in my trip to Goa!

nice info Mukund!

Depending upon what type of spots U like, crowded & fun filled or silent, I can suggest U both types!
First of all about the beaches of Goa!Goa stands for Beaches!
Notable thing @ beaches is they are safest in India, well maitained and clean!
Favourite beach is obviously Calangute for its long stretch and its safest beach in Goa!It is mostly crowded by Indians!
On holidays it is too much crowded! So if you love silence, then avoid this beach!
Colva beach is in south Goa and just 5km from Margaon.
Miramar beach is near Panajim, just 5km.If U proceed 3km from miramar U reach to Donna Paula! An eternal Love Story surrounds this monument!
Back to North Goa,U can enjoy most silent and beautiful beaches like Keri,Asvem,Arambol(Haramal)!these are least crowded ones from North!
In South one can enjoy most beautiful and longest beach of Palolem! But it is more than 50km from Panajim,so less crowded!
I personally like Vagator beach in North Goa!It is accompanied by Chapora fort!
Either first visit the beach and then climb up the fort to see most beautiful sunsets or first go to fort and in the twilight enjoy the downhill journey to the beach!
it is so easy that my mother had enjoyed this!
On the beaches, there are facilities for watersports!but be cautious about the cost factor! One can be told any unbelievable amount!

Second type of tourists are more interested in temples in Goa!
All the Goan temples are beutiful ones!
they are more near to South Indian style in its design!
Shantadurga,Manguishi,Mhalasa,Naguishi are some of these most visited ones!
Mhalasa temple has a brass lantern of more than 25 ft. and a 'stambh' of the same height!
All these are to the eastern side mostly in onda Tehsil which is 18 km from Panajim and Margaon too!
In the North Goa notable and famous temples are Maharudra Sansthan in Mapusa,Dattamandir and Vitthalmandir in Sankhali,Bodageshvar sansthan in Mapusa,Hanuman mandir in Panajim!
all the temples are adorned by eye cathing light arrangements sponsored by Goa Tourism!

Hope U have some info right now!
wWill wright on some more exciting and beautiful places next time!

Thank you very much to Mukund, Giriraj and Swapna for info. And Swagat samiti for welcome!
Well certainly have more info than I had before!
Giriraj do post more about other places. I was interested to hear that calangute is very crowded . When I had gone in 90 it was a really nice spot. so I think we better not stay there. what is colva beach like? If we stayed there , are there good places with restaurants ? We did not visit south goa much . We only went to Calangute Baga and the temple of Mangueshi . Once again thanks to everyone for help and will appreciate as much info from as many people .
