Italy madhe best season mhanje....April / May / June. Its primavera time ( Spring time ). Aani Tya nantar July / August / September is summer time.
Months of November and December is winter period. So be prepared for that. The temperature in that period should be 10-15 degrees, Depending either you are in North of Italy ( Near Milano and around ) Or south of Italy ( Near Rome and around )

Especially in Florence beware of Gipsy girls..They just come in a group and divert your attention. Sice they are young and they come very close to you. One can easily get distracted. But these are their very old tricks..One of them will be having newspaper in their hand. And there target is your money purse. So if something like this is happening to you then just put your hands on your money purses. If you are in grouup then you are more safe.
There are other 2 tricks which are noticed in last few years. Especially at the new airport in Milano and Central Railway station in Milano. One is that someone will tell you that your money is down on the floor and you will see some banknotes on the ground. If you try to pick up those then the someone will just runaway with your hand baggage. Secondly , they will tell you that there is something on your back. And you will find yogurt like stuff spilled on your back. If you try to pay attention to it...The result is the same ...they will run away with your bag. But these incidents normally will happen with the lone tourist. So just be extra careful. Thats it...

5-7 days in Italy with the places you mentioned to cover is enough. About renting the car its better to rent the car. The driving is fun especially if you are thinking to drive from Rome to Florence or so...You will be travelling through the TOSCANA region , one of the most beautiful region in Italy.
But the railways in Italy are one of the cheapest in Europe and if you are in the group of 3 or more then you get almost 20% or more discount on the railway tickets. This ticket is called "Mini Gruppo" ticket. Or if you decide to cover everything by train then it is also advisible to buy the "kilometri Biglietti" Which allows upto but not resticted to 5 travellers to travel 3000 kms troughout Italy and costs somewhat near to 100 dollars
The railways are absolutely reliable and comfortable.

Florence madhe barya paiki sarva( Uffizi, Duomo, Accademia, Ponte Vecchio bridge) "walking distance" var aahe. Hope you guys try some of the coast too - either Cinque Terre or Amalfi.

As Jagguda has mentioned try to visit Cinque Terre if you can. For visiting Pisa few hours are enough. You are lucky also , they will allow visitors to climb tower of Pisa from the month of October. ( It was not allowed for more than 10 years )
One more place worth giving a thought is Island of Capri. There are some underwater caves blue caves ( Grotte Azzure ) ...which are in my opinion spectacular, The blue reflection of water that you get inside the cave is unimaginable. I had visited Capri almost 5 years back and its unforgettable journey for me. The island of Capri is near to Naples...You will have to catch the steamer to reach there. Then there is mount Vesuvius and excavated city of pompei close to Naples.
If you like paintings then there is the famous last supper painting in Milano by Leonardo da vinci.

KWE like Que in "Quetta"
T in Terre is like T in Talwar
Terra in Italian is land or earth but is interchangably used to refer to places also, Cinque Terre is a group of small five villages spread around the coast ( These five villages are Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso )
