तुमचे काय काय preferences आहेत? नुसती गाणी ऐकण्याव्यतिरिक्त, ipod nano/zune चे इतर features खरोखरच वापरले जातात का ( watch videos, pictures etc. ?

Ipod व्हिडीओ मी कधीच पाहात नाही. nano is the best . zune पण चांगला आहे पण असे ऐकले की Lib share करता येत नाही. CBDG
Nano Rocks शिवाय ipod मोठ्या स्पिकरवर ऐक्न्या साठी klipsch चे igrove आण. thats the best combo
but choice is yours.

माझ्याकडे photo IPOD आहे. मी तू गाणी ऐकण्याशिवाय HDD backup म्हणून वापरतो. I find it very useful and convinient. त्यात photo, songs etc सगळेच आले मग.
You can buy docking station and hook it to any receiver if need be. बाकिच्या options मधे IPOD ची battery वापरली जात असेल तर लवकर discharge होते.

To be very honest, I don't understand why people run after iPod so much or its just that the Mac zealots managed to win the war? I must say that I love mac even though I hate Apple's capitalistic not so green product approach but I wonder if iPod is really worth of the cost and features it offers.
Before I deviate more, this is how I substituted my iPod urge for cheaper option than iPod. I bought Rio Chiba 256mb which has expandable memory slot (This is now replaced by Rio Forge) so I have a audio player.
As a backup device, I bought something similar to Digimate II.
The total turned out to be lot lesser than equivalent iPod (that time, iPod didn't offer video feature)
What I earned here, The memory type I use here is, SD card, the cheapest and most reliable flash media, usable in my camera, camcorder and my PC. The imagetank serves as a stationary temporary backup or backup on the move without need of any PC.
So in my opinion, even though there are so many 'uses' advertised for iPod, Zune etc, you don't need so much so just go for what you need. I will prefer watching a movie on portable DVD player rather than iPod which essentially I can use as an audio player or even a photo frame (Philips sells such photoframes for USD 200 or so)
My 2 paise with little deviation on the topic.

Prasad,
Before going to Ipod I was using sony 256 mb and sandisk 1 gb for music. ( as you are using now).
To just listen they are good.
But my need was more then that like compilation of music, I was not able to do that. ( like singer, composer blah blah) I turn to Ipod i got that so i hooked to it. But i agree that its just way costly. May be the new Sandisk or samsung, creative are more then OK.

Prasad you have raised valid points but IMHO have mixed up more than one questions.
Here is what I can deduce,
1. Should one go for all-in-one kind of portable solution or stick with specialised equipments for each use ?
2. If former, why IPOD and not any other ?
1. For first question, if versality and portability are requirements, then players like IPOD, gigbeat, vision are only answers. It is not feasible to carry multiple seperate players for different usage.
I wanted something which can serve as photo frame, music player and HDD - all in one.
2. Why Ipod ? For that matter I'll say why Gigbeat or Vision or any other player ?
IMHO, it is personal choice. Before one makes decision, I'll urge to consider following points
a. Expected Usage
b. Reliability
c. Quality
d. User Interface : Please have hands-on on models you want. Do not go by reviews alone. I almost ended up buying Toshiba gigabeat untillI tried navigating through playlist using it's weird square controls.
e. Usability
f. Proven Market History
g. Price Range
h. Market share : yeah, thats very important, you do not want to end up with any obscure product used by very few people.
More support options/tools will be available for more popular players.
i. Storage Capacity
j. Brand Name affinity
