Any one with expertise in corporate biases and discriminations, and wrongful terminations?

Here's the deal. I had requested to use PFL(as per new Ca. guidelines), and I had submitted the request to my manager and HR 10 days ago. 10 days later I am in the list of people laid off. Now, ours is a small company, and I have seen them lay off a fwe years ago another employee who was on maternity leave, so the fact that my name may be in the list because of my pfl request, is not too far fetched. Besides, another peculiar thing that I noticed is, that all the women in the group are gone! They were the bulk of the layed off positions so that there are no women in Eng. except for one of the co-founders.
The people who have been left behind, are actually much less experienced and rather junior in our co. I was in a rather indispensible position. Again, this matters only because ours is a small company.
So is there anything I can do here? Any advise is welcome.
Thanks

Good Luck!

sTÜ from what I have read, there certainly seems to be something going on:
http://www.jacksonlewis.com/legalupdates/article.cfm?aid=528

The article does say that:
"PFL Does Not Provide an Entitlement to Leave or any Form of Job Protection"

but I would assume thats when you RETURN to your job, it still does not explain why you would be laid off BEFORE you went on leave.

The above article was very informative. But I dont know the firm, (nor am I recommending them !)
Don't let this get to you. Good Luck !
