hi, i am in NC, USA and recently found out abt my husband's infidelity. I have evidence with me but am afraid my husband will pinch it from me. Where can I get a safe deposit vault ? Also is it safe to hand over the evidence to a lawyer. I don't want to take take any legal action yet because I am awaiting my citizenship which I badly need. My children are US citizens, and my husband and me are GC holders. I want to go back to India as soon as I get my citizenship (to protect my entry into the country, in the event that my husband kidnaps them and brings them to US). ANy help will be appreciated.

Rent a safety deposit box at a local bank. It can be accessed only by you. (Even if your husband gets the key, he can't access it because photo id needs to be shown.) Rents may be $80-100 per year depending on the size of the box.

Thanks Upashiboka. I will check out my local bank.
Also, once I get citizenship, how I can go to India so that my US citizenship is still valid. What paperwork would I need to submit ?

And can I return back to US, without any home(we currently live in an aptmnt) or permanent address? Just based on my US cistizenship and passport ? FYi, I am working and do have my Social Security tax getting cut in every pay check. But when I leave US, I will quit my job too. So will i still be allowed entry without any permanent address here and no external financial support (except my bank accounts)

Once you are a US citizen,

* You can live anywhere in the world as long as you have a valid visa for the country you will live in (India in your case.)

* After becoming a U.S. Citizen, you will have to surrender your Indian passport.

* You can enter and leave US as many times as you want without any documentation (other than a valid U.S. passport and a valid visa for the country you will be living in).

* You do not need proof of property, assets
or a permanent address in U.S. to enter U.S. once you are a citizen.

* Remember once you become a U.S. citizen, you will have to file U.S. taxes even if you are not living in U.S and do not have any income in U.S. You will be taxed on your worldwide income.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much Pooh. It is such a shock for me what has happened that i still cannot think straight. my head is still reeling, it is very difficult to accept that my husband has cheated on me after 8 years of marriage and 2 small children.

please clarify some other questions for me -
1. can i work in India while I am a US citizen ? If so, how do i file for my taxes from india in the US ?
2. if i divorce my husband on grounds of adultery, and go to live in india, will he be made to pay me alimony by law? even if i earn myself ?
3. if i do not divorce him, can i will all my money in my single account to my children(i am afraid for my life at this point) and in the event something happens to them (god forbid), then all money should go to charity, but not to my husband, is there any way i can do that ? i believe us law makes spouse the primary beneficiary unless there is a written consent waiving off the rights.
4. can a lawyer help me write such a will ?
also my children are minor (ages 4 and 1). so if i were to die before they come of age, then who will get the money ? will a trust be formed automatically if i do not want my husband to have the money ?

please help.

Venus: This may not answer any of your questions but considering the nature of your issue and law technicalities its better to consult a lawyer to get right information so as to avoid any legal issues which might pop up at later stages.

I am not a lawyer and therefore not qualified to answer any of these questions. You probably to need to consult with an attorney in US to discuss this in detail.

If you are afraid of physical violence, it is best to seek help from the police and various organizations in your area who help in such situations.

Abhijit

Posted on Thursday, July 11, 2002 - 7:32 pm:

Hi all,

I've to send 2 vaccines (Pneumococcal and
Meningococcal) to India this month. This is for my
cousin's 8 year old daughter, who was unfortunately
involved in an accident (struck by a public transport
bus) in Pune, India. She suffered head injuries and
had to be operated in ER. As she's recovering slowly,
but steadily now, the neurosurgeon has suggested that
she be given the above 2 vaccines, before the end of
next month.

Problem is, these vaccines are not available in India.
I did some research here and found out that these are
readily available in US, in hospitals only and one of
that is recommended by CDC for all kids before 2 yrs.
Now that I know about availability of these vaccines,
what are the next steps should I take to procure
these, so that they can be sent to India? (I'm hoping,
there exists some channel to get these.) My folks have
forwarded me the doctor's prescription. Any pointers
in this matter will be really helpful.

Abhijit: You can send the medicines through courier service or through a known passenger along with the bill (cost of medicines) as it might be checked in customs, especially if medicines are very expensive. Also include doctor's prescription.

I hope this helps....

Thanks Yogi. All the responses I've got till now say about "how to send the medicines". But, about how to procure these, I still don't have a clue. I'm trying though...

Abhijit, if you know any doctor, please contact him and let him see the prescription and ask his help to get the vaccine. If you do not know any doctor, contact a hospital and ask if they can help you. If you can get in touch with any Indian doctor, he will be able to guide you. I hope this helps and you get the vaccine to send in time.
