Hi Neha,

What information do you need about Scandinavia, I stay in Stockholm. We are a small group of Marathi speakers in Sweden, about 40 or so spread all around major cities (towns or even villege of you want to say ;)

Tourism in Scandinavia, you must be rich :-) We ourselves go down in the south. Let me know anyways, will provide whatever information I have

I don't know what is your travelling plan and how many changes are possible but following are the dates when you can see midnight sun this year in Norway. Since Norway is most northern as compared to Sweden and Finland, even Swedes go to Norway. I don't know about the Finnish place that you are talking about. All these places in Norway are way high up. I have attached the place and the dates screenshot.

My suggestion would be to fly to Kiruna (Cheap airliner is
www.flynordic.com, and SAS has started within Sweden flights for SEK 450+tax one way) and then drive up E10 till Abisko, this is where Sweden ends (Actually it ends at Riksgränsen which is s skiing slope) and then you will enter in Narvik, Norway. You can watch midight sun at either of the places. These are the southern most places where you can watch midnight sun otherwise you will have to go up north. Check detailed map of Norway and then you should be able to find the places I mentioned in the picture below. The dates indicate the period when the midnight sun is visible there.
If you are a group driving all by yourself, drive on E69 till Nordkapp, thats the best I have heard but be prepared to pay sickeningly high for parking.

Just got some information from my lab mate who went by train from Kiruna to Narvik, as one of the most beautiful train rides she had, so you may wanna try that out. Check
www.sj.se for more information. (There is an english link but if you have any issues with this website because of language, drop me a line)

Honestly, I am not aware of half of the places that you mentioned but I can tell you about Stockholm.

You said, you are staying on Waxholm, its good island but I don't think there is loads to see apart from that old castle and since you have only two days, it will be very difficult for you to check out out most of the things in stockholm.

In Stockholm, you should not miss old town (called as Gamla stan in Swedish) They still managed to maintain the rustic feeling there. Drottningholm castle garden is something you should consider which is near place called as Bromma. This castle where Swedish royal family currently resides is not so great that you should spend your time and money on (compared to the Indian heritage, its all typical european castle with all old chairs and beds, I didn't like it) but garden and the area surrounding is brilliant.
You should visit City Hall where the Nobel prize ceremony takes place and climb up the tower to get a bird's eye view of Stockholm or otherwise you can climb up the TV tower at Djurgården.
Try to make a stop at Nordic museum (Nordiska Museet in Swedish) Don't bother to waste your time at Vasa Museum, this is some Swedish boat that sank immediately it went into the water because of bad engineering but Swedes are still proud of it. I think our Angrey's navy had better ships at the same time this Vasa sank!! (This place is too much hyped in travel books)

Visit Stockholm Town website (
http://www.stockholmtown.se) for more detailed information.
For the trip to Helsinki, book your ticket on Viking line (www.vikingline.se) rather than Silja line. Viking line terminal is very much in the town than the Silja line, so if you are in hurry or end up getting late that day, there are more chances that you will get Viking line boat than Silja line because of the connections in the town. Be warned, taking cruise is certainly a fun but it is going to take your half day and full night, leaves Stockholm about 16.30 hours and reaches Helsinki about 10.00 and its pretty tiring (even if you get yourself a cabin) I won't recommend someone this cruise unless I wanna party or buy tax-free goods which I doubt you will. (honestly, that is the only reason why these cruises are so cheap)
Cheap airline flying on this route is blue1 (www.blue1.com), they may have luggage reservation so check if you decide this one. Cruise doesn't care about luggage as such.

So these are my suggestions and reservations, please be specific with the query so that I can be of more help. It needs a lot of time in Stockholm to enjoy it. I won't compare it with Rome but its something similar. I am here from last 3 years but I haven't seen more than half of Stockholm. If you are into mothernature then this is the place. There are few Nature reserves just outside Stockholm (Tyresta for example) and few islands like Grinda, very well maintained forests, enough space for camping etc.

So in nutshell, two days are too little to make a quick trip in Stockholm. Try travelguide by Discovery and they may have some information about how best you can cover Stockholm in just two days.
Midnight sun-- Don't bother to drive so way up high, webshots can come to your rescue to see midnight sun through someone else's pictures.
Otherwise, just out of context information, Sweden builds an ice hotel near Kiruna in winter which is way worth visiting than a midnight sun, as this hotel is just not only made up of ice totally, including chairs, tables, beds but if you are lucky enough you can check out Aurora borealis!!

Checking this BB after a long time.

@neha,
Sorry to hear that you had hiccups in Stockholm but probably you didn't get initial information properly. In Stockholm, everything is centred around City centre so all maps and information etc is well available at City terminalen where most of the tourists usually land in first. Since you probably went to waxholm by car, you missed that (if I understood your travel plan correctly)

Anyways, good that overall you managed to visit major attractions.

Coming Feb, we are planning a trip to Kiruna, hope we manage to see aurora borealis.
