I agree that Daniken does come out impressive initially. His initial books make compulsive reading. Later, however, he emits obsession. The theory is credible, and does hold substance. It is convincing in part that I am not exactly a descendant of monkeys. It may also not be an entirely fantastic idea that our ancestors from the Mahabharat-Ramayan era were intelligent enough (perhaps with help from the Third kind) to produce missiles (astra's), levitate, air-travel, even perhaps remote sense.
But what next? It would perhaps be more interesting to see if he actually formulates/predicts the occurrence of the next 'alien encounter' on a global scale that would revolutionize the earth as it did (presumably) many thousand years ago. If at all such a phenomenon does occur, (and if it is periodic), then which species would be the next to benefit? Would it be some predator of mankind? Why would aliens not inhabit the planet themselves given that they can not only adapt to the earth, but are superior enough too to mutate an entire species into a superior species? Is the earth just a playground for these aliens to come over, play around and leave, or, is there a long term interest in tampering with the genetics on the earth? Is the earth being monitored constantly? Is there only one (probable) answer to all the different occurrences/situations/happenings in the past - from the architecture of the pyramids to the missiles and aircraft in Mahabharat, to the massive drawings on the plains of Peru and Chile ?
If I am not mistaken, Daniken does not address much about the future. All his work is about the past. The orientation of his work is more probabilistic than deterministic, eventhough he shows a lot of 'proof'. (Notice how many question marks appear in his books... it almost gets tabloidal).
Nonetheless, I like to read his work because it does invoke curiosity, he does take considerable efforts to support his speculations and he doesn't sound like a run-of-the-mill UFO watcher. :-)

Daniken is nothing but a tabloid writer. Some of his so called truths were manufactured to support his arguements. How many of us have really checked out pictures printed in his books or theories and mathematical equations he proposed to make sure they are genuine? Refer this and get enlightened.

द पां खांबेटेंचं 'चंद्रावरचा खून' वाचलंय का कोणी? विज्ञानविनोद कथा आहेत. मला त्यातली 'ज्याचं त्याला गाढव ओझ्याला' आणि 'मिष्टान्नपेटी' या कथा खूप आवडल्या.
आता हे पुस्तक मिळतं की नाही माहिती नाही. मी लहानपणी वाचलं होतं.
